Seeing the big picture
idiom: see the big picture
The overall or long-range view of a situation. Compare ‘take a broad view’, meaning to look at some problem or situation in such a way as to remove limits about what is possible.
Being restricted in my movements right now, owing to the UK lockdown, I’m still trying to get different angles on seeing again what I saw only yesterday, maybe getting down low or remembering to keep looking up. Of course, sometimes, I forget the most obvious – just taking a step backwards…and another…and another. Simply really, but it does begin to show up a bigger picture.
Where you stand determines what you see and what you do not see; it determines also the angle you see it from; a change in where you stand changes everything.Steve de Shazer
