The Almost Early Adder

Almost early adder at Branton

So pleased to have seen my first adder of the season today!

The earliest I’ve ever seen an adder at Branton Nature Reserve is 20 February. This was in 2018. Prior to this, I’d seen my first adder on 12 March (2016) and 8 March (2015).

On a day when the air temperature was 5 degrees C, I spotted five adders basking on the south-facing hedgerow banks at Branton Lakes. They never fail to amaze me.
