Camera van deployed in Powburn

Following the installation of new road signs throughout Powburn in January 2018, Cllr. Robbie Burn (Chair, Hedgeley Parish Council) was able to report that there was a camera van deployed in Powburn by the Northumbria Police Camera Enforcement Unit on 1 February 2018.

This is very good news for the residents of Powburn which is a speeding hot spot.

Speed Camera Site Compliance

Website visitors may recall that there was a delay in siting the road traffic camera van in Powburn (see Stop Speeding! Update (Oct 2017). Since then, Neil Snowden (Principal Programme Officer, Technical Services, Northumberland County Council) has had plans drawn up for replacement of signage on the A697 in Powburn. The information was forwarded by County Councillor Wendy Pattison to Councillor Robbie Burn (Chair, Hedgeley Parish Council) who has subsequently submitted it for publication to keep residents up to date with developments.

Dualling A1: impact on A697 traffic

Robbie Burn (Chair of Hedgeley Parish Council) recently attended a Public Awareness session regarding the proposed dualling of the A1 in Northumberland. Robbie put forward our concerns regarding the likely possibility of increased traffic on the A697 through our villages. Road safety campaign letter – 2 Mar 2015

Letter received today from Julie Pörksen

Dear all,

Please find attached the letter I have sent to both the head of the Highways Agency (responsible for the A1) and Northumberland County Council. I hope we can get some action on the main routes first as there are known road safety problems on these then put pressure on for any other works required on smaller roads.

NOTES from the Public Meeting: Road Safety and Speeding on the A697 held on 16 February 2015 in the Breamish Hall, Powburn are now available.

The meeting was well attended. Robbie Burn (Vice Chair of Hedgeley Parish Council),  Kate Cairns (Northumberland County Council Councillor), Julie Porksen (prospective Liberal Democrat MP), police representative Paul Sykes  and 46 members of the public attended.
