Happy New Year!
Not a lot to be said, really…2020 has been unprecedented.
But now with the positive news of vaccines against coronavirus starting to be rolled out, there’s good reason to hope for a happier 2021.

As mentioned in the post entitled Remembrance Sunday 2020, May Wilson BEM has today laid a commemorative poppy wreath in remembrance of the fallen from the Breamish Valley at the Breamish Valley War Memorial in the Powburn Community Garden.
An information board about the Breamish Valley War Memorial in Powburn was installed yesterday (Sunday 19 Jan 2020) by Sid Smailes (who looks after the Community Garden) and Robbie Burn (Lead person for the Breamish Valley War Memorial Project).
You are cordially invited to gather at the Breamish Valley War Memorial in the Powburn Community Garden at 10:50am in preparation for a brief wreath-laying at the foot of the memorial.
May Wilson (Hedgeley Parish Council) has sent the following information today.
No doubt you’ll have seen the wonderful Christmas Tree in the Powburn Community Garden (pictured above and below).
On Saturday 27 October 2018 the Breamish Valley War Memorial Project came to its planned conclusion – the dedication of the War Memorial to the 39 servicemen from the Breamish Valley who lost their lives in the two World Wars.
The ceremony, which was conducted by Revd Jane Wood, took place at 2:30pm in the Powburn Community Garden. With well over 100 people attending, and with glorious sunshine (on a day that had seen the first slight snow fall of the Autumn in Powburn village), everything went smoothly.
The dedication of the newly-installed Breamish Valley War Memorial will take place as follows.
Following the laying of the first foundations on 9 September 2018, the War Memorial itself was set in place on Friday 14 September 2018.
Readers may recall that the War memorial Hole was dug on 25 August 2018 and yesterday (Saturday 9 September 2018) the first foundations were laid.
The Breamish Valley War Memorial Project continues to progress with the War Memorial Hole dug on Saturday 25 August 2018 in the Powburn Community Garden.
Staff from Gilbert Birdsall Ltd (Building & Civil Engineering), Robbie Burn (Project Lead) and Sid Smailes (Steering Group Member and custodian of the Community Garden) all worked hard to ensure the first groundwork to site the War Memorial was carried out to the required specifications. There were a few onlookers getting a first glimpse too.
