Vipera berus slip slidin’ away

Having only just seen my first adder late on in the season (15 April 2023), I came across this one the following day – also at Branton Lakes Nature Reserve.

By the time I’d approached, it had already begun to slide away into the long grass at the top of the small grassy bank on which it was sunning itself. So, the photos aren’t very impressive but they do show what wonderful wildlife we have in and around the Breamish Valley.
