Tom was born 2 February 1891 in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, UK.
He was a travelling gardener and is believed to have resided at the Lilburn Tower Estate (along with three other gardeners Bertram Reinfred BARRON, Frederick Alec Leonard JERRAM, and Richard RIDDING). As with these other three gardeners, Tom enlisted at Alnwick into the Northumberland Fusiliers and is also commemorated on the Eglingham War Memorial.
