Photos Needed (Heritage Project)

Photos needed of two events

The Breamish Hall Heritage Project that began in October 2021 is coming to its end. Graham Williamson and May Wilson have collected together a number of images and documents that help to record a history of the Breamish Hall in Powburn. However, there are two events for which we have no suitable images/photos:

  • Opening of Breamish Hall 1974
  • Bus crash in Crawley Dene 1980

Opening of Breamish Hall 1974

Icon of flag bunting

We know that the Breamish Hall opened on 25 October 1974. However, for such a significant event that was conducted by the Rt. Hon. Viscount Ridley (Chairman of Northumberland County Council), we have been unable to find any photographs.

Do you have any photos of this event that you could share with us? If so, please get in touch (details below).

Bus crash in Crawley Dene 1980

Icon of upturned bus

On Christmas Day 1980, a coach travelling from London to Edinburgh skidded on black ice into Crawley Dene. The coach flipped onto its roof and a number of passengers had to be cut free by emergency services. The Breamish Hall was opened and used as an emergency centre.

We have newspaper clippings of this event but these are copyrighted by the newspaper agencies – consequently, we can’t print or display them.

Do you have any photos of this event that you could share with us? If so, please get in touch using the details below.
