What's On?

Great garden tea 2015!

What a great garden tea!

Thanks to the hard work of everyone who organised the Tea in the Garden event that took place yesterday I, for one, woke up this morning with a smile on my face.

What a wonderful time we had in Powburn’s community garden yesterday afternoon. Having had a few drops of rain in the morning, the sun came out almost on cue at 3 o’ clock, jumpers came off, and…the party began!

Sign the petition


Following on from the news piece yesterday about the proposed closure of Branton Schools, we are now able to provide information about the petition that has been set up to oppose the closure of Branton Community First School.

The petition has been set up by Claire Wood on the Care2 Petition website. The petition is for the attention of the Prime Minister and the target is 1000 signatures. At the time of publishing this post there 169 signatures.

The 1715 Rising in the North and Magna Carta

19th May – 5th July

Two concurrent exhibitions commemorating the 300th anniversary of an ill-fated attempt to restore the Stuart monarchy by Northumbrian Jacobites and the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta. Includes winning Magna Carta entries from a schools competition run by Alnwick Town Council.

Three Anniversaries – An exhibition about Living, Learning and Local Running

7th July – 24th August

Living – Barresdale in living memory. Features photography, film and recordings of local people and events from the 50s to the present day.

Learning – Swansfield Park First School celebrates 60 years of learning and inspiration.

Local Running – Alnwick Harriers present their colourful history and celebrate the 35th anniversary of the popular, annual Coastal Run.

Museum events for families and adults:

Museum Tots

Monday 13th July, 9.30 – 11 am

Tots is a fun and creative session for pre-school aged children, their parents and carers. Free, but booking is essential for this popular activity.

We are currently planning an exciting new summer programme for families. There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved and lots of fun to be had at Bailiffgate during the holidays. Please check our website nearer the time for further details.

Knitting group

Fridays 2 – 4 pm.

Come and join our friendly group – all ages and experience welcome. Free admission (suggested donation £2.50).

Family History Society events:


Tuesday 7th July, 7.15 pm

Helping to clear the “fog” that may surround some family stories and records.

Society members are free but we welcome all interested visitors (suggested donation £2.50).

Saturday 18th July, 10 am – 1 pm
