Laying boulders at riverbank

Now that work has begun on stabilising the riverbank of the River Breamish, the project is moving on rapidly. Having finished laying the root wads at Site 1, some boulder-sized material has been placed on top to act as ballast (see the schematic diagram below).

Some of the actual boulders can be seen in the header image at the top of the page and also in the following photos taken yesterday morning.

The Haywood Contracting team were expecting another delivery of boulders to complete this phase of the works, having started to overfill the root wads plus boulders ‘bund’. This can be seen more clearly in the images below.
