A1 Closure (March 2018) CANCELLED!

A1 closure cancelled

Robbie Burn (Chair of Hedgeley Parish Council) has today attended a public meeting in Belford regarding Highways England’s proposed closure of the A1 for 17 days as from 2 March 2018. County Councillor Wendy Pattison also attended the meeting and she has just released the following statement.

I attended a public meeting this morning with our MP Anne Marie Trevelyan, Leader of Northumberland County Council, Cllr Peter Jackson and 2 representatives from Highways England in regard to the proposed closure for 17 days of the A1 between Brownieside and Adderston which is a 4 mile stretch of road.

There was strong feeling in the room that there had been no consultation and no thought given to repercussions re residents and no proper discussion of the proposed alternative routes had been properly considered.

The result of the meeting this morning was the cancellation of the road works due to take place on Friday including the road closure with the possibility of re-commencement possibly starting in October 2018.

Nothing concrete (no pun intended) has been decided as yet other than the road closure will not now take place.

Best wishes Wendy

Many thanks to Robbie and Wendy for taking the time to attend the meeting and for representing resident’s views.
